| Casualties I |
National advocacy groups united to March for Peace in Washington, DC on January 27, 2007 as an effort to express disdain for the US-led occupation in Iraq.
Each square inch of the red fabric represents twelve casualties of the war in Iraq estimated at that time. The three individuals wrote the casualty counts on their foreheads and served to symbolize different facets of humanity destroyed by the violence. From left to right: The business person represents the 2,996 victims of Sept. 11; the soldier represents the 3,318 casualties endured by US and Coalition forces; the Iraqi civilian represents the estimated 300,266 lives lost.
The artists shown in the photograph are part of group called tri-be (pronounced: tribe), dedicated to "challeng[ing] people's expectations, judgments, beliefs, and views" [tri-be.org].
